Since my X100 gave up on me and repair takes 6wks, and I'm not taking my 1DsMii out on a street session, and I gave up 35mm few years ago, I was in need for a new camera :-) (hey is this not a good reason?). Not looking for a replacement for the X100, the IQ is simply to good to shift aside.
No, I was looking for a replacement of my old an well used Ricoh GRII which didn't fulfill the role of street compactcamera since I'm too attached to use a VF. (The IQ in less than optimum light was not really top)

I ended up with a Nikon 1 V1.....
After months fighting with the habits of the X100, what a relief to have a well designed camera in hands. IQ is brilliant, taken the small sensor size in consideration (not to compare with anything with a bigger sensor tough) and AF very fast and reliable (not too difficult since the sensor is small en DOF huge on all the f settings...)Firmware logically build and a pleasure to use.
And the battery, the battery! Its a DSLR battery, that is what I call a battery, not just a flimsy battery with a stamina of a 35mm film, (that is approx 35 images)......

Haaaa, Fuji, buy over a Nikon engineer next time yo design a potentially great camera.

;)

Actually, many good Fuji engineers left for Nikon after Fuji ended its DSLR line.

That would explain something about the actual design of Fuji cameras. B)

My V1 has become my favorite camera, Quick Autofocus ( phase detect and contrast -- think about it Fuji)

The battery lasts for hundreds of shots ( again think about it Fuji) , and conveniently will work in my D800E when it ships...

The FT1 adapter works great with nikon primes .

Having that massive depth of field at f5.6 is also very useful. I still like the color of the x100 better but the V1 seems to produce 75% of my keepers.
