I think all firmware updates have the same filename. As a multiple of the same filename (of a previous firmware that you download) the new file will have a number added xxxxxxx (1).dat

You've probably just tried your previous download, look for the appended number, or sort your download folder by 'date added'.

Firmware updates is one thing I'm quite religious about following Fuji instructions. I always format the sd card in the camera and put only one update on the card - don't try to save time by downloading both and letting the camera decide!

To be precise, all firmware updates for the same camera or XF/XC lens model have the same, specific filename, regardless of their version.

    Boldening added by me.

In fact, you can put multiple FW update files onto one SD card, if only one is for the camera body and the rest is for various XC/XF lenses. You then run the camera body update first and subsequently the lens FW updates, swapping lenses between the various update runs. The camera recognizes the attached lens and looks for the matching lens FW update file on the SD card.

I completely agree with the above.
For the same body or lens model, the firmware name is always the same.
And we can indeed cumulate two files, or more, of firmware (body and lenses) on the SD card.

For the initial problem of this thread, we do not know why , Aphotographer concludes that he always has the previous version.2.10 ?

    - Perhaps he use a previous file, because of multiples files : FWUP0010.DAT , FWUP0010(1).DAT , FWUP0010(2).DAT , FWUP0010(3).DAT

    - Maybe a confusion with the name of the file FWUP0010.DAT which could make think that it is version 2.10? previous version
    - ...etc

    Who knows ?

One thing I started doing was downloading directly to the SD card so there's no confusion.

Don't open the firmware file, that's not how it is done.

Read the update instructions, refer to the FAQ

You DO NOT open the file. Simply put it on a card and put the card into he camera and follow the update procedure for the camera.
