    Received my X-H1 today: everything is beautiful, love the IBIS, Eterna and F-log.

    But, I don't understand how the autofocus in video works.
    Because it just does not!

    I've tried everything, every combination etc.
    So, what's going on?
    I've tested both 35mm F2 and 50-140mm lenses.

    For example when I set camera to:
    Movie mode;
    AF-C;
    Boost mode: on;
    F-log: on;
    Movie AF mode: area;
    AF custom settings did not change anything.
    Pre-AF: on;

    The only time AF works is when there's very high contrast scene.

    I also noticed that AF works better for distant subjects.
    If I try to focus to subjects closer than 2 metres, it struggles a lot.

    Any suggestions?

    It’s not “your” X-H1. Lots of reports here:

    General feeling is that there will be a firmware update really soon!

    Do you have anything concrete to suggest this, or is just wishful thinking?

    In bright daylight the focusing is better, but definitely worse than X-T2.
    Oh well, it's time to finally start practicing manual focusing. Samyang kit is coming anyway :)

    I don't have facebook but I see reports of this on forums and in youtube videos. I really hope Fujifilm can fix this via fw. Unfortunately there is another problem that surfaced, that 1080p60 has way more moiré/aliasing on the X-H1 than on the X-T2. Can anyone confirm this?

    Good job it's a relatively inexpensive camera, or it might be worth asking for a refund :)

    Well, I made a video just for you, using the slower f1.4 35mm lens, as I don't have the f2 (which focuses faster!)

    I think you put your finger on the right thing when you said,

    Yeah, I saw that. But, I posted my result to Facebook that does not look so good. So, perhaps there's a question of settings?

    ...or some content's color, contrast, edge quality... stimulates the sensor focusing pieces better in subtle ways. The camera is new outside of small test groups and with the usual rush to market it lies on the shoulders of you early adopters to articulate better than Fuji what creates fast and accurate autofocus in front of the lens.

    I saw a video focus comparison on both XH-1 and XT2 in which the XT-2 reacted more accurately. I wish I had saved the link so I could reference it here. Just panning back and forth in a medium-size room he pushes his hand, fingers slightly open, into the scene to create a new target up close (2 feet? 2.5 feet?). The hand goes quickly to and stays in the center of the frame. The XH-1 allows it to stay unfocused right across the pan. I believe the lens was the Fuji 16mm f1.4.
    If I can find the link again I will come back and put it in this post.

    There was no information about the AF options.

    This was confirmed by other users too, somehow the DR modes have an effect on CAF.

    Yes, I can also confirm that DR setting makes a difference.
    DR400 that is used for F-log is not working very well, needs lot of contrast.
    DR100 is pretty good.

    I bought X-H1 about 2 weeks ago and testing various things. I find still photo is excellent, but there some issues with movie.
    Focusing is very slow. As I pan the scene the focus cannot catch up as the distance changes.
    When I zoom up a scene the focus cannot catch up.
    I spent half a day trying this and there is nothing you can do.
    I hope firmware update is coming soon.

    Have you looked at the focus sensitivity and AF speed settings?

    Do you have the latest firmware installed?
    After the update my camera is much better and I have no complaints!
