I’ve been playing around with Toner Transfers onto canvas. (And wood.) The process lends itself to Americana, so several of these pieces have a tractor theme. Minneapolis Stroll Case, Threshing This is an excerpt from the artist statement for an upcoming gallery show which includes Threshing. Threshing was captured at the 2023 Le Sueur County Pioneer Power Show. The scene, a steam powered Case traction engine driving a threshing machine through a power take-off belt, speaks to engineering, ingenuity, and the labor of cultivation. And the history of all that. The final piece is a one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted toner transfer on canvas, combining historical subject matter with a tactile, analog process. About the Process This image was created using a hand-done toner transfer process. Printed with a color laser printer, the image is transferred onto canvas using an acrylic transfer media, then careful hand-burnishing and finished. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, with natural imperfections—gaps, texture, and irregularities—that make the process as visible as the subject. The result is both image and artifact, a tactile interpretation that echoes the craftsmanship at the heart of the scene it depicts. An analog finish to a digital capture. Both of the original images were captured using the Fujifilm X100V | WCL-X100 II. The art copies were also made using that camera.
